Considering buyng a pre-owned Subaru?

We have compiled some useul tips and advice for you to consider when making a purchase;

Piston Slap - Make sure the car is cold from viewing. This is especially important as Subaru's should be run on Super Unleaded Petrol rather than Unleaded.  If the car has been run on the wrong petrol it can result in 'piston slap' which is only noticable when the car is started from cold.

Milage - Always be aware that the life expectany of a Subaru engine is between 60k - 80k.

Rust / Rot - Subaru's are not known for suffering from cosmetic corosion such as rot or rust.  Any obvious signs may indicate poor maintainance.

Unsmooth or 'notchy' Gear change - If the gear change isnt smooth this suggests the gear box is worn and will need replacing.

Clutch - The biting point should be quite low.  A high biting point would suggest the clutch may be worn and could need replacing.

Whining Rear Diff - If the rear diff makes a whining noise (similar to the sound of a ball bearing noise) this is a concern and will probably need replacing.
